Creating & Collaborating with Online Applications

Google Docs - Reflections of Learning

Post Module 3

A collaborative spreadsheet  / form is an ideal way of surveying others for information and creating statistical data from it.
In this case I have surveyed our Year 5/6 students to gain information about their online habits and the ways that they would like to learn when using ICT.
I found that creating a 'Form' will define your spreadsheet and once the template is saved, the form can be shared. Y

You can use the embed code to share the document as opposed to using the email link, I think is most beneficial as a teacher. Students simply access their online space to complete the survey.

In Showing a Summary of Responses, I was able to access statical data to help drive my planning and map out future directions ( I found this data very useful in bring home the message to our teachers that our students live in a 'Connected World'). Students responded to the questions on the form and the data is visual represented depending on the question type. Sharing the data opens up a world of possibilities with your students or the data can be used to drive learning and teaching.

It's important to note that you can select when to accept responses and when not to. When posted to a public online space anyone can respond to your survey link and this opens the door for inappropriate or unauthorised responses. For this reason you may wish to stop accepting responses after a period of time or simply turn off and on when required.

Saving in a secure space such as Edmodo that is password protected should solve this issue however it is always good practice to monitor and close surveys when not required or if you want to schedule when you receive responses.

All up, I see a big future in the use of collaborative documents. The possibilities are endless in a school environment.
